Reseller Program

We’re very excited to announce the YikeSite Reseller Program. Now web designers and developers can fully brand YikeSite to their own company and/or name.

Split Revenues 50/50 With YikeSite

Resellers get a 50% discount off the regular plans and get to bill their clients full price. The only requirement to receive the discount is to be on either the Small Biz ($24/mo) or Big Biz ($45/mo) plan.

We bill you monthly via credit card for your reseller account plan and for each of your customer accounts you will be billed at the 50% discounted rate. You will bill your customers directly however you normally do (credit card, cheque, cash, bones, etc.)

Completely Branded

White label YikeSite to your own company & brand. Your customers will see your logo in the login and administration screens.

Your Own Signup Page

Signing up a new account with your new CMS is easy. You get your own signup URL such as www.acmecms.com/signup where potential customers can sign up for a free plan. Sit back and receive email notifications for each signup that happens on your site.

Custom URLs

When you sign up for a YikeSite account, you get a free URL such as mysite.yikesite.com.

When you’re a reseller you can use the generic mysite.clientwebsite.net or point a wildcard domain at us and use mysite.acmecms.com for a complete branded experience.

Dashboard Of Customer Activity

Stay in the loop on what’s happening with your customers’ websites. Easily view the activity that is happening on any of your sites such as creating, updating and deleting of pages.

Watch Your Company Grow

Take a peek at your revenue snapshot to see exactly how much you’re earning as a reseller. Get monthly, quarterly and annual revenue projections at a glance.

How do you become a reseller?

Once you have upgraded to a paid account, just send us an email and we’ll set you up as a reseller. From that point on you can use your own signup form to set up clients.

Please let us know your thoughts on this new addition to YikeSite and if you see any way we can improve the reseller program.

New Features! Photos.

Automatic Image Resizing

Ever upload an image from your digital camera and see that it is way too huge to fit in a website? Now in YikeSite your image will automagically be scaled down to fit in your website. What’s more is that we create a nifty 150 pixel wide thumbnail as well.

We’ve updated the image manager as well so you’re actually looking at thumbnails now instead of just text. Which leads way to the very exciting news of…

The Photo Gallery!

We’ve added the gallery module to YikeSite which is good news for photographers, artists & generally photo-friendly people. In YikeSite, photos are organized to each page in your site. So you upload your images the same way as normal and if you want to display all images on a page, just turn on the photo gallery module.

Gallery Design

When you add the gallery to an existing site, you will need to add styles to the gallery. To get a head start, you can copy the layout CSS from the default or the full bloom theme.

So go have fun and please send us any feedback or feature requests!

We publicly launched YikeSite August 28th, 2007. In the first year we’ve seen hundreds of signups, great buzz in the blogosphere, new features launched, trips overseas, an iPhone giveaway and an overall great time for YikeSite contributors. We put together this little video to celebrate the first year. Enjoy!

It’s taken way too long but we’re ready to start releasing the new set of YikeSite themes. Here’s the first one from the contest winners.

» See It In Action

» Download It!

How do I install it?

It’s easy, in the admin area click onto “design” and then the “import/export” tab. Browse for this zip file and click the import button. You might have to clear your cache if you still see remnants of your old theme. Enjoy!

XHTMLize your YikeSite!

We’re very excited to announce that the kind folks over at XHTMLized have just launched support for YikeSite themes.

Here’s the deal:

You hand them a graphic file (photoshop, fireworks, illustrator, etc.) and they hand you back a YikeSite theme ready to integrate into your own website. No dealing with HTML or CSS and no dealing with cross-browser design issues.

A big thank-you to XHTMLized for adding us to the “Save as…” drop-down on their site.

We look forward to seeing your designs in YikeSite.

As a bit of promotion for your site, post your XHTMLized site here and we’ll do a feature article on all designs, comparing your uploaded design to the completed YikeSite integrated theme.

Spring Features Update

Last night we pushed quite a few changes to YikeSite. Here is a summary of the latest and greatest.

Theme Import/Export

You now have the ability to import themes that others have created. This is an open theme format that anybody can develop for. In fact, it’s so easy to share your themes that all you need to do is export your theme from one site and import it into another one. The file format is a standard zip file so you can also get in there and use your regular tools to code it up.

We will be launching a theme gallery with the winning themes from our contest very soon. The theme gallery will be a place where the community can share themes with each other.

Additionally, we hope this will create opportunities for theme designers to be able to sell their YikeSite themes.

Extended Trial

Our billing system is now integrated with Visa and Mastercard so we can now accept credit card payments. We have added 30 days trial to customers who have previously signed up for a pay plan and who wish to continue to try YikeSite. In about a month, you’ll be asked to enter your credit card information if you wish to continue the service, however you can also downgrade to the free plan for as long as you want. Thank-you to everybody who has shown interest in YikeSite over the last several months – we have really learned a lot and will continue to provide an awesome service for ya’lls.

Reorganized Editor

We have made a few changes to how the editor’s buttons are grouped. You’ll notice a “basic” and “advanced” tab which splits up the most used functionality into the main editor. If you want more advanced features, you can still access them by clicking on the “advanced” text.

Miscellaneous

Here are some of the highlights from this most recent changelist:

Each account can have a time zone set. Initially, this is used for the new billing system but where we have any dates being shown, they will be localized to your time zone.

In the theme editor, when you upload a file with the same file name it will overwrite the file instead of create a new one. This will save people some time when making small tweaks to the images of a theme.

Uploaded files are now limited to 100MB in size.

Fixed old URLs bug. When you rename a page, the page is still accessible by the old URL. Duplicates were being created on every save of a page rather than on just a rename. All duplicates were deleted for each site and the bug was fixed which should increase some site’s load times.

Updates to the Unicode support.

Many many smaller improvements, bug fixes and code tweaks.

Upcoming

More features and enhancements are planned to be rolled out throughout the spring and summer:

Photo gallery feature

Image resizing functionality for huge photos

Basic blogging software

Export site as static HTML

OpenID support

Forgot password feature (duh!)

Stay tuned for more!

Language Support

Today we migrated YikeSite into a UTF-8 database. This means that we should now be able to accept more languages. Basic testing has proven that you can input some pretty funky characters into YikeSite, save and display them.

You can also create page names with UTF-8 characters in them. One caveat though is that we base the page’s URL on the name and there are restrictions in what characters can be in a URL. We will try to convert your url to one as close as possible to the page name though and we’ll strip out any characters that don’t conform to a standard URL.

What You Need

1. Specify in HTML

In your theme HTML, put this at the top in between the <head> tags:

<META http-equiv=”Content-Type” content=”text/html; charset=utf-8”>

2. Specify a UTF Font

A safe one seems to be “Lucida Sans Unicode” and most people will have this font by default (and is specified in the default YikeSite theme). Lucida Sans Unicode has 1775 glyphs. Times New Roman, Arial, Courier and Impact should also handle most major Latin-alphabet, Greek and Cyrillic languages and all contain 653 glyphs.

Help Us Out

Please report any issues you may have with integrating other languages in your YikeSite pages. Just post a comment here and we’ll try to work it out together. Thanks!

Theme Contest Winner

Congratulations PixlNinja!

Decision ‘08

First of all, congratulations to all five winners. It was a tough decision and it really came down to PixlNinja’s theme looking the most unique out of all of the themes. It also, was the most unique compared to the default theme which got major bonus points for.

So, PixlNinja… e-mail support@yikesite.com with your mailing address and I’ll send out your iPhone this week!

Theme Directory

We have the ability now to import/export themes but we’re rolling that out with the next major deploy of YikeSite in the coming weeks. So look for the top 5 themes when we do launch the directory and you can try them out for your own YikeSite(s).

Thanks!

Thanks again everyone for submitting themes and participating in the contest. We’ll likely hold another one so stay tuned.

On The Road

Since the launch of YikeSite we’ve been on the road quite a bit. First we went out to the Future of Web Apps London which was a really great time with new friends and some good learning.

We have exhibited at two conferences in the last month. Trying to spread the word about YikeSite and Animikii. We got a display booth which looks fancy and snazzy. The Animikii banner says “We Do Web Stuff” and the YikeSite banner says “You Do Web Stuff”. We will be using these two taglines in future marketing efforts.

The first conference was held in Kamloops, BC and was a forum for economic developers in Canada to come together and share new ideas. We were there because we feel that any economic development based product or service should have a web presence. And what better tool to use than YikeSite!

This last week we represented YikeSite at the IslandTech 2007. This was a one day tradeshow in Victoria, BC to showcase local technology companies. Many people came up to us and were surprised that they hadn’t heard of us yet in the Vancouver Island technology “scene”. To which we replied, “prepare to see more of us”.

FOWA Summary

I’m just returning home from the Future of Web Apps, London. I got to meet some amazing people and I got to spend some time away from the office gathering ideas for YikeSite. The thing that excites me most about these kind of events is getting to see people in the web application space speak in person – to hear successes and failures – all in the spirit of learning from one another.

The company who put on the conference, Carsonified, will no doubt post their free MP3s just as they have with past events. If you haven’t had a chance to listen, you’d better take a look if you’re interested in web applications.

Being there and taking the temperature of what is happening with web-apps was further validation that what we’re doing with YikeSite is a good thing. So, back to work I guess and stay tuned for new YikeSite stuff!

FOWA was a very international event. After the conference I went out for dinner with Piyush Goel (India), Ian Morgan (UK), Geoffrey Grosenbach (US), Mokoto Inoue (Japan). And of couse me from Canada. Some of those chaps show up in the following photos. Also had some good discussion with Ryan Carson and got to snap a pic with him (above).

Browser Compatibility – 25 points

Usability – 25 points

Enter as many themes as you like.

You must own the copyright to your design.

By entering a theme, you give YikeSite the right to promote, modify and publicly list it in the theme gallery indefinitely.

Your theme will have your name and website link next to it at all times in the directory.

Contest deadline ends midnight PST on December 17th (Extended from the original Oct 5th deadline)

How to Submit

Create a free YikeSite.

Grab the theme pack.

Use the Theme API to create your theme.

When you’re done, post a comment to this article with your link to your YikeSite.

If you need help with the theme API, we will keep an eye on the discussion forums and try to help out.

Theme Sharing

In addition to the theme gallery, we are working on a way to be able to import/export and share themes very easily. We hope this will encourage people to build their design business around YikeSite.

What Now?

The feedback has been great so far and it is a validation that we are going in the right direction with YikeSite. A couple of things have been bumped up on the to-do list some of which include:

Kickstart the YikeSite theme development community,

Handle image uploads nicer with support for image resizing, and

Build better support documentation with tutorials.

Keep an eye out here for more updates. And thanks again!

What is YikeSite?

YikeSite is the easier way to keep your website up to date. Manage your own website, your client’s website, or your cousin’s website. Save time and money, the do-it-yourself way.

Who is YikeSite for?

For Individuals & Businesses: The idea of putting something on the internet might excite you. You’ll get to play with your own website without having to first go through your web designer. Your content gets updated more frequently and you’ll have fun doing it.

For Web Designers: You’ve never found a CMS that you feel 100% confident training your clients on. Most content management systems you’ve tried are so cumbersome that the client ends up having you do the content updates anyways. Leave your client in good hands. It just might free up your hands to work on other things :)

Come and check us out at http://www.yikesite.com
